Conflict Resolution - Strength Deployment Inventory

"A good manager doesn’t try to eliminate conflict; he tries to keep it from wasting the energies of his people. If you’re the boss and your people fight you openly when they think that you are wrong – that’s healthy." - Robert Townsend

Conflict Resolution - Strength Deployment Inventory

The costs of unresolved conflicts at work can be huge – to the parties involved, to colleagues and teams, to clients and to business performance. The CBI estimates that conflict in the workplace costs UK businesses £33 billion per year, taking up 20% of leadership time and losing up to 370 million working days.
This programme draws on the proven approach of the Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) to equip you with the skills to recognise and respond to conflict quickly, flexibly and effectively by learning to identify people’s motivational value systems and how to respond to the motivations that underlie behaviour.
Through completion of the Inventory and guided discussion, you will learn:

  • How to identify people’s motives, priorities and value systems
  • How to accurately predict people’s behaviour
  • The value of reframing your ‘opponent’s’ weaknesses as over-used or misapplied strengths
  • How we naturally tend to perceive the behaviours of others through our own Motivational Value System
  • The importance of clearly distinguishing between Motivation, Intention and Behaviour
  • How to recognise and respond appropriately to Valued Relating Styles
  • How to recognise and respond effectively to Conflict Triggers
  • The importance of achieving a quick resolution of issues, repairing damaged relationships and responding flexibly with clarity and understanding
  • How to work with the Conflict Sequence (Green, Amber & Red)
  • How to avoid preventable conflict
  • How to recognise and work from your Valued Relating Style
  • When it is appropriate to utilise a Borrowed Relating Style

Through the programme you will gain a greater understanding of how to recognise and respond to the motivations that underlie behaviour and how to manage the behaviour of others to resolve conflict and achieve win-win solutions.

This flexible programme is available for both individuals and teams and can be customised to provide a ‘best fit’ for industry sectors and/or according to individual or group needs.
